In 2019, we launched Careers in Code in partnership with Onondaga County, the Alliance for Economic Inclusion (AEI), CenterState CEO, and The Technology Garden.

Our first cohort of Careers in Code students have come a long way since they graduated. Many of them have obtained internships, entry level software development positions, and ultimately have made positive change within our local community.

Our graduates had to make tremendous sacrifices and have dedicated countless hours to our first cohort. We’re extremely proud of their hard work and success.

We reported outcomes data every 30 days post-graduation regarding employment, wage increases, and more. Here is some information on our outcomes and transparency:

  • Student Outcomes Report. We reported data associated with placement, job creation, and wealth creation. We’re proud to report that the percentage of students that have obtained jobs, internships, or consulting arrangements with local employers within 180 days of graduation is 7 out of 11 students with an overall salary increase of 55%.
  • Transparency Report. Information and reflection on our objectives, successes, lessons learned, and shortcomings based on the feedback we’ve received.
  • Student Success Stories. You can find success stories on some of our graduates on our website.

Many of our graduates are becoming leaders within local development meetup groups. In fact, two of our graduates started Syracuse’s very own tech podcast, Salt City Code. We can’t wait to see what amazing things our graduates will do next!

Given the success of our first cohort, we were extremely fortunate to be awarded three additional years from NYS to grow and scale the program as part of the next round of AEI funding. Our goal is to train up to 60 individuals over the next three years in Central New York.
