Careers in Code is getting closer and closer! Time has flown since we first begin putting the pieces of this puzzle together last year and we are finally ready to kick off the inaugural term of our coding bootcamp!

To celebrate this new beginning, we’re hosting a kickoff meeting on Thursday, March 7 at The Tech Garden, where our classes will be held. This will be an informal networking opportunity between accepted students, instructors, and partners of the program. Following the networking portion, students will stay for a brief orientation and laptop distribution.

Students, instructors, and partners, we invite you all to say a few words during introductions for everyone to learn more about you and your background. We’re excited to hear about all our students’ goals, and invite instructors to share which modules you’ll be teaching and partners to tell the group more about your company and possible internship and entry-level positions that are available post graduation.

This is an excellent opportunity for everyone involved to mingle and get to know each other, as we’ll be working pretty closely together over the next six months. It’s also an opportunity to do it while you enjoy pizza and drinks, too!

The night will go as follows:

[5:30pm — 6:30pm] Networking, introductions from students, instructors, & partners, icebreaker event

[6:30pm — 7:00pm — Accepted students only] Brief orientation, laptop distribution

Here are just a few of the partners that will be attending the kickoff meeting:

TCGplayer
Syracuse-based TCGplayer is a technology company that operates the leading online marketplace for trading card games and collectibles. They are a former sponsor of Hack Upstate, or biannual weekend hackathon. As you get further into your coding education, we suggest taking a look at their developer network, which allows access to its API endpoints so users can create solutions for the hobby retail community.

Metis Consulting
Metis is an Onondaga County-based consultant specializing in enterprise web development, mobile development, legacy system integration, and database management using agile methodologies. They are a small company with about 20 employees whose commitment to work/life balance is much-needed in the tech world!

Raymour & Flanigan
Our friends at Raymour & Flanigan, a CNY company that’s flipping the script on furniture retail, are joining us as a Careers in Code partner as they work on growing their IT department. They’re looking to nearly double the staff in that area so they can use technology to enhance the retail experience, and leverage local talent while they’re at it.

CoveyCS
CoveyCS is a software consulting and development firm based in Utica. It’s a growing business that we’re excited to partner with again — in the past we’ve worked with CoveyCS when they sponsored Hack Mohawk Valley, the area’s first hackathon, back in November.

The Tech Garden
Last but not least, you can meet the folks from The Tech Garden, Central New York’s premier business incubator and the home of Careers in Code! The Tech Garden creates tech-focused startups, fosters the development of entrepreneurs, and supports the innovation ecosystem throughout the Central New York region.

We hope students use this opportunity to meet with partners and get an idea of what opportunities are available following the program. It’s going to be a great night, we can’t wait to meet you! RSVP here.
