Tompkins Trust Company’s Commitment to the Community
Hack Upstate’s mission is to advance Upstate NY’s technology community. Written by Upstate Interactive’s Kristen Ciccolini.
This year, we’re honored to bring on Tompkins Trust Company, an Ithaca-based financial services company, as a sponsor for Hack Upstate XIII. Along with creating long-term value for its customers, one of the most important core values at Tompkins Trust is a commitment to community, something we deeply have in common at our hackathon.
“It is important to our company that we provide as much help as we can to the many wonderful nonprofits in Central New York, especially when those organizations have similar and shared values as Tompkins Trust Company,” says Aundre Seals, Marketing Communications Business Partner. “We believe in Hack Upstate’s mission to cross-collaborate with Central NY’s regional technology communities, and have a desire to remain an innovative community bank. We are grateful for the way Hack Upstate is innovating in the tech industry.”
As well as its involvement in this spring’s Hack Upstate event, Tompkins Trust supports all sorts of tech and science organizations in the CNY community, such as the Boyce Thompson Institution, Ithaca High School Code Red Robotics, Trumansburg Robotics, and Life Changing Labs, to name a few.
The team strives to support technology, innovation, and sciences as often as they can, as they are inspired by the growth of our region’s tech scene.
“It’s exciting to see how students are using technology in our local area,” said Christian Isaac, IT Support Services Specialist. “Having been a part of organizing Destination Imagination in CNY a few years ago, it’s incredible to see how young students are taking technology and applying it in ways that better our community.”
Isaac points out several great initiatives led by technology in the community: elementary and middle school students using social media to help the CNY community stay active in the winter months; students at Ithaca and Cornell Colleges researching how to improve sustainability through technology, from converting fully to renewable energy through solar technology to using tech to design the most efficient routes for public transportation; and local car- and bike-sharing programs implemented through convenient mobile apps, reducing the number of cars on the road and lowering carbon emissions.
We’re honored to have an organization like Tompkins Trust back again this year as a sponsor supporting Hack Upstate XIII, with its commitment to improving the CNY community that aligns with our ongoing mission of bringing that community together and growing our region’s tech sector together.
Our 24-hour hackathon, taking place at The Technology Garden, is absolutely FREE to attend and is open to developers, designers, engineers, innovators, and tech enthusiasts of all levels. We encourage attendees to share their ideas, work on any venture you want to, and join forces in creating new and awesome projects.
